*********PLEASE NOTE THIS BANJO IS ON HOLD FOR LOCAL SALE UNTIL 5/1/18.********** VINTAGE GIBSON RB 11 ORIGINAL FIVE STRING WITH FLATHEAD TONERING. This is a very special banjo in part because of the no hole flathead tonering that "may" be a pre-war ring.
About 20 years ago Mark Taylor, (son of the legendary Dobro player, Tut Taylor, and partner in the Rich and Taylor banjo company and later guitar company Crafters of Tennessee) listed this tone ring on eBay and I won the auction.it was listed by Mark as being a possible original Gibson Pre-War no hole Flathead ring. It came with a metallurgic analysis comparing it to 25 other prewar tone rings, and suggested that the analysis indicated that it was possibly an original pre-war ring. . I will find it and post it. Anyway, Mark suggested there was is no way of definitively determining whether this is an actual prewar Gibson Tone Ring. I am uncertain how Mark came to that conclusion. It sure does sound like a prewar flathead. I had Renee Karnes install the ring in this banjo and set it up to perfection. Their has been some professional touch up to the paint throughout the neck fingerboard and resonator. HSC And last but far from least, EARL SCRUGGS played an RB11 for years before he got his Granada.
