This TB-3 comes from the family of the longtime owner and is from one of the first lots produced after the changeover to the one-piece flange in 1929. The flange is the slightly later type rather than the very lightly-built earliest version; it has a moderate amount of pulling up but nothing too bad. The rim thickness below the flange is .610" as opposed to approximately .625" on the "fat rim" Mastertones. There is what appears to be an old overspray on the resonator with belt buckle wear through it in the center; the rim and neck retain their original finish. The armrest is the "Vibrato Tone-Master" mute type; the internal mute mechanics have been removed but there is a corresponding hole in the rim. There is an old repair at the neck volute with two drilled holes; the neck has also been refretted. This banjo appears in Gibson's shipping ledgers being returned to the "Music Shop" (location unknown) on January 22, 1948 following an unspecified repair.
This banjo came to me with no case but will be shipped in a hard shell case.
