For sale a Gibson 1929 TB-3 tube & plate Mastertone conversion banjo with a 3/4" maple wood rim stamped with S/N 9385-5. A new archtop to flat head conversion tonering.... by Bill Sullivan of First Quality is fitted to this banjo with no cutting to the wood rim. So converting it back is not a problem.
I bought this tone ring from Jim Mills and Installed it into my TB-3 conversion banjo with prewar flathead tone quality's. The TB-3 is all original prewar except parts to make it into a five string. the tail piece is the original 4 string part. also the Gibson label is centered and uncut.
The five string neck is from Frank Neat with a rose wood finger board with diamond and snow flake inlay. The D tuners are from Mr. Bill Keith, it also Comes with a Guardian Deluxe hard shell case, capo and new strings and a strap, a not so common Vibrato tone master mute.
With this late 20's Great Grand dad closet banjo in almost new condition it looks and sounds like a prewar flat head should.
It seems as though fewer want archtops. So when Bill Sullivan of first Quality came out with its archtop to flat head conversion tonering it made another choice for TB-3 banjo players. But all said and done I still need to whittle down my collection to just one prewar Gibson banjo. So listen to my video and hear how it sounds. Even with flubs with timing. TKS....
