This banjo was a custom build in 2014, I purchased it here on BHO last September. Original owner asked Mark Platin at Wildwood for every possible eye candy add-on and it is a stunner. All the hardware is gold-plated with engraving on the bracket band and armrest. There is an extensive custom abalone and ivoroid binding scheme. Fingerboard inlay is abalone "vine of life" pattern. Gold-plated Gotoh tuners. Original hard shell case with the Wildwood warranty card. (Strap and moon bridge NOT included, will place original back on instrument.)
Scale length is 26 3/8" with a nut width about 1 1/4". No frailing scoop. Figured maple neck. An absolutely incredible banjo both in tone and in appearance. This is a great banjo for the bluegrass player wanting to take on an old-time banjo as feel and action are similar.
My playing preferences have evolved to shorter scale, wider nut, scoop, and higher string height than this Wildwood. Plus, it is so darn beautiful, I'm afraid to play it and "mess it up." I have taken it out of the case maybe once a month when I "play through" my different banjos. I always gravitate to the shorter wider neck with a scoop. This banjo is too nice and too gorgeous to sit in a case - deserves to be played. I don't think I've put more than an hour of time on the banjo, and its been wiped down every time. Better than showroom condition.
I went through a phase last year where I had to try out just about every North American banjo builder (thanks to Craig Evans" videos). I've done a lot of fishin' for banjos, so to speak, caught quite a few, now it's time to release some back into circulation. I feel it's just "wrong" for me to relegate this instrument to languish in its case. She needs a home where she will be appreciated AND played! WAS $3400, NOW $3200 now $3000
