1926 Bacon & Day Silver Bell #1 Tenor Banjo
I have owned this banjo for over thirty-five years; it has brought great pleasure and challenge to my life. It is bitter-sweet to let it go, but it is time to let someone else enjoy it.
A few months ago I had it meticulously restored by Hall of Fame Jazz Banjoist, Steve Caddick. If you have seen his engraving work, you know how meticulous he is. And what a super job he did. I’m sure it didn’t look this good when it was new.
Every millimeter has been carefully massaged in a true master’s hands. The set-up perfect and the sound is beautiful. When I bought this banjo some forty years ago it was gold plated. Traditionally the Silver Bell #1 is not, however over the years I have realized that the factory filled many special order requests, so it may have come this way from the factory in New London, Connecticut.
As you can see from the pictures every piece of metal was brightly and carefully polished and gold plated. All the wood parts were stripped, sanded, filled as needed, and expertly finished. Steve re-fretted and rebound the fingerboard, it’s as smooth as silk.
I’m sure if you’ve looked, you have seen other Silver Bell #1’s for sale. This one is most likely the nicest one available today. All it needs is a new owner. If you don’t think you play well enough to own a banjo like this, might I suggest contacting Steve, he gives lessons via Skype!!
Thank you for your consideration.
