This neck and rim combo fit together nicely. The rim is an hickory 3 tier Pass style block rim and is extremely dense hickory. The tone ring is able to be removed, made of Wamara Rosewood and it is arche-top styled to give it a flat-head tone ring sound. With it having a wood tone ring it saves about 3 pounds off your banjo and your back! I had this strung up just the other night and it sounded really good.
This neck was custom made by my father, with superb slim-line action . This neck is the neck of all banjo necks. Mike Sumner of the band Detour played on this neck for about an hour and said that it is 'phenomenal'. If you like lightening fast action this is the neck to have. Made of Northern Black Cherry with a center strip of Walnut with Hearts and flowers inlayed in ebony; slightly radiused fingerboard for comfort and speed fretting. Don't know much about the head plate.
The nut measures 1 & 1/4 inches and the at the heel 2 inches. I'm sending the rim rods with the neck. This banjo has some chips in the binding and some fret wear. The fifth string hole is larger and needs to be re-filled and is shimmed but it works just fine!
