I recently aquirred some 50+ year old Pine boards, that have a vertical, or near vertical grain, that ARE making some fine sounding Spillway Banjo Bridges, like the ones that xnavyguy, and rollplayer, from here on the Hangout developed. You get the sound quality of the vertical grain, and the strength of the regular horizontal bridge. The best of both worlds. They are capped with a Rosewood Cap.
These bridges really work well, if you have a banjo, with a lot of harsh overtones, or you just want a little, more mellow sound, without loosing the good bluegrass sound. They also work good on open back clawhammer style banjos.
I can make them in any size, up to 3/4", and any string spacing you need, inculding standard 42mm, and Crowe spacing 44mm.
If you would like to try one, send me your name, and address, the height, string spacing you need, and if you need a 4, or 5 string bridge and I'll get one made up, and out to you.
I think you will be surprised at how good a simple switch of a bridge, can make your banjo sound.
