1960'S Fender Artist 5-string and original case. Appears to be all original parts with the possibility that the 5th string tuner is an upgrade. The fingerboard has been planed and filled and the entire neck given a new fret job. The case is original and in good shape on the inside. The outside is missing the handle and the covering has been taped up in places.
Sliding capo holes are filled on the fifth string side and no spikes are installed.
The resonator has typical signs of use for a banjo of this age. Metal work is in good condition.
Bridge is a 5/8th Crowe spaced Stelling. The volume and clarity is outstanding.
HERE IS THE BIG NEGATIVE. THE TONE RING IS AN ORIGINAL FENDER RING THAT SOMEONE DRILLED 32 HOLES IN. THIS PERSON DID A NICE JOB, AND FRANKLY I THINK THIS BANJO HAS A BIT MORE BALANCED TONE THAN IS EXPECTED IN A FENDER. THIS IS THE REASON FOR THE LOW PRICE. THIS IS A PLAYER AND NOT A MUSEUM PIECE. YOU WILL BE HEARD FOR MILES AND THE PLAYABILITY OF THIS BANJO GREAT.
