NOW WITH UPGRADED CASE! REVISED DESCRIPTION: For Sale: My pre-war (previously thought to be 1933, now thought to be made in the summer of 1929, according to research done by Joe Spann) single-piece flange Gibson TB-2, S/N 9487-19, which I bought as a tenor in 1986. Highly figured four-lug walnut resonator with original finish, bound in white ivoroid. Serial number chalked and painted inside resonator. All original hardware included. Tailpiece bracket silver soldered in 1986. Flange has usual pulling up. Armrest has some plating loss. Tailpiece is a Presto, unpunched. Replacement McPeake pot-metal tension hoop (broken original included). Added Huber steel upper coordinator rod and Huber Vintage Flathead tone ring. Original pot in great condition with Gibson label and matching stamped serial number.
Five string neck made in 1986 by Larry Cohea with Hearts and Flowers inlay pattern on a rosewood fretboard and a matching straight-grained walnut neck. Filled holes where a Shubb fifth string capo was removed. Spikes at 7,8,9,10 & 12. Some play wear to the fretboard and lower frets and some thumbwear to the rear of the neck. It is still in very good shape for having been played a lot for 23 years. Newer Pavel 3.5 to 1 pancake tuners and unknown geared fifth tuner in good shape. Nice patina on the ivoroid buttons to match the yellowed lacquer on the bindings.
Original straight-grained walnut tenor neck with MOTS fretboard and peghead overlay. This year had the two extra cuts below the first and fourth string tuners, like the Mastertones, which were omitted from later examples of model two. Original small frets and Grover pancake tuners in good working condition. Matching serial number penciled at the heel. The original 1/4” brass ring, broken pot-metal tension hoop and flesh hoop are included.
NOW INCLUDED: a 1991 Gibson case in excellent nearly-new condition with key.
It has an 11/16 Snuffy Smith bridge and a Remo high crown head. Fine sound, here is a short sound sample:
