Neat little C. Edgar Dobson "Great Echo" patent banjo, with a double walled metal rim made either of plated brass or nickel silver. 10" rim and 23 3/4“ scale. Rim and metal dowel stick jacket are in excellent condition. The nuts are all original, though it appears a few hooks are replacements. The tailpiece is a modern No Knot. The peghead tuners are period "patent" friction pegs, while the 5th peg is more modern.
The neck was rehabbed by Dave Stacey in the UK, and is not a true restoration but shows very fine workmanship. I believe the heel cap, fingerboard, and peg head veneer have all been replaced with Ebony, and it has been refinished. Inlays may be originals or replacements (not sure) but are in keeping with what the instrument would have originally had.
Set up with LaBella 16 strings, a period two leg bridge, and a very nice old calfskin head. Sounds great for finger style playing. Includes a used Levy's gig bag, which is a bit chewed up inside bust still protective.
