Behold the Gibson RB18 5 string banjo! I bought this incredible Gibson Banjo new in 1996 from John Ramsey, owner of The Original Folklore Center in Colorado Springs Colorado. This Banjo was on display at the 1996 Telluride Bluegrass Festival in the Gibson booth on Festival grounds. The RB18 was the top of the line for banjos at that time. You'll notice the pearl truss rod cover is engraved TELLURIDE. This came as original equipment with the banjo.
Serial number 18-9601-1 states the model number is 18, the year and month January 1996, 1, meaning it was the first one to come off the line, of that year.
I have cherished this banjo for 29 years, played it very little and has always been kept clean in a non-smoking environment.
The curly maple neck and solid carved resonator remain unscratched or chipped. Gold plating throughout is still untarnished, however only the armrest is showing a bit of nickel plating coming through on the edge. The Gibson USA flange, Kalush tone ring, and tension hoop, are beautifully engraved. More photos are available for serious inquiries.
