For sale is a Stelling “Golden Cross” five sting banjo with original hard shell case. Stelling instruments are considered among the best banjos in the world. Every one of these banjos has come from the small but efficient shops of Geoff Stelling, made entirely in the USA. The following is from the Stelling website: "The Golden Cross was the ninth Stelling banjo to be built, the first one to have the trademarked Stelling peghead shape, and was named for Tony Golden, who rode motorcycles with Geoff Stelling and bought the first Golden Cross. This model was also honored to be the banjo played by the late great Don Reno for the last ten years of his life, and was featured on many of his fine recordings with Bill Harrell. The Golden Cross features fancy curly maple with the golden sunburst stain and detailed checkerboard purfling inlaid along the neck and resonator binding."
The banjo offered here is truly amazing. The sound, as so typical of Stelling, is bright and crisp, workmanship of the Stelling banjos is as beautiful inside as it is outside. This banjo is 100% original Stelling and includes the following:
Curly Maple Neck And Resonator
Beautiful classic sunburst Finish
Golden Cross Pearl and Abalone Inlay
Checkerboard Wood Binding Inlay
Solid Cast Nickel Plated Hardware
Ebony Fretboard
Stelling spike installation at 7, 9, 10, and 12th frets
All parts of this banjo are original genuine Stelling parts
Includes the professional original hardshell Case
Newly installed Ludwig head, Stelling bridge, and strings supplied by Stelling in 2002
The condition of this Golden Cross is very good. The photos don't begin to show its beauty. It has normal but noticeable fret wear for a banjo of this vintage. It has been played very little. The fret wear in no way affects the playability of the banjo. There are no noticeable scratches or dings on the banjo. The serial number of this banjo is 2994, built in 1985. It was purchased as a used instrument in about 2002. the hard-shell case has some wear and abrasions (character) as can be seen in the photos, but is structurally sound and in good overall condition. A copy of Stelling original setup notes is included. This banjo is located in Shelley, Idaho. I can deliver it to the Ogden, Utah area (or within a reasonable distance, for expenses) if necessary. Price has been reduced to $5000. Make offer.
