A Stelling Golden Cross in maple, rather than the more common walnut, is a rare find. “Stelling” engraved on the armrest, tailpiece, tension hoop and flange. Metal work is bright with minimal patina/discoloration on the arm rest. The resonator was suffering from cloudiness presumably from excessive moisture exposure. I lightly sanded the lacquer and allowed the resonator to dry slowly for a few weeks. I then resprayed the resonator with multiple coats of Mohawk instrument lacquer. The appearance of the resonator is greatly improved but it’s not perfect by Stelling standards. The moisture damage caused wrinkles to form in the laminated wood surface of the resonator and I doubt that the surface could be sanded flat without cutting through the laminate. Great Stelling tone, volume and playability from this rare banjo. Also available on Reverb.com with more payment options.
