Red, White, and Blue fiddle — it’s a standout, for sure.
When I got it, the rib on the bass side next to the neck as well as the top from the neck block were loose, which I glued back, along with replacing the broken tailgut. The strings on it now were the ones that it came with, taking them off and shortening the amount of string wound on. I replaced the partial red plastic tuner button with one made of red heart, and the other with bone, assuming the missing one would’ve been white. These tuners are marked Kluson. I trimmed the bridge down a bit to lower the strings, last I measured at the end of the fingerboard the E was a hair over an 1/8” and the G being 5/32”. It’s interesting as it has “frets,” basically grooves cut into the fingerboard for the first seven positions, acting as visual aides as well as by feel under the fingertips. It also had what I’m calling “comfort grooves” in the neck at the base of the peg box for the thumb and index fingers. It has a generic Stradivarius label under the bass sound hole.
This fiddle comes with the original chipboard case, also of a similar color theme with a gator skin top texture. I reattached the case pocket pieces as they were loose. As indicated on the side, top, and back, it was owned by the late Leon L. Mesler, of Palmyra, Michigan. According to an obituary I found online, Mr. Mesler passed on in 2003.
I’m also including a used round 3/4 A. Breton bow with plenty of hair left and a replaced full rubber grip.
