For sale or trade is a 1908 Bacon No. 2 Special. This rare, Vega-made, custom-ordered banjo features the No. 3 Chubby Dragon rim marquetry and some of the No. 3 inlays, along with a highly flamed No. 3 neck blank sans heel carving. The rest of the banjo conforms to normal No. 2 Special specs aside from the SS Stewart inlay positions. The fingerboard is ebony, not dyed maple. Overall, it is in excellent condition for its age, with the usual thin cracks to the dyed maple peghead overlay. It has some fret wear but plays fine with the nylon strings I use. It's fitted with a fine 11'' calfskin head dated to the 1940s and an original Bacon bridge. The banjo ships in an old but serviceable Calton case.
As far as trades are concerned, I'm interested in quality classic banjos such as Stewarts, Weavers, Cammeyers, etc. I'm also interested in early banjos - both originals and replicas.
