This is a 1932 Gibson TB-1 Banjo. It was later converted to a 5 string. An unknown builder built the neck, and later Noam Pikelny, who I bought this banjo from in 2005, had Robin Smith remove the frets and have a radius put on the neck. The neck is slim and very comfortable to play. It has a 20 hole Curtis McPeake tone ring.

It has a speed neck. The neck is curly maple, and the resonator is straight grain maple.

The pot is all original, except for the armrest and tailpiece and one resonator bracket.

It does not come with a strap, Cheat-A-Keys, and truss rod cover. I will replace the truss rod cover with another one.

It has an evenness of tone and more sustain than most banjos I have played. I have received many compliments on its tone from other musicians.

This was the banjo used in the winning of the National Banjo Championship in 2005 and the Rockygrass Banjo Championship in 2006.
