For sale 1980 Gold Star G11HF (hearts and flowers inlay) archtop banjo serial number 800199. The G11 is a mahogany banjo. This banjo is in excellent condition for an instrument that is now 45 years old. It has been set up properly with the head tuned to G and the bridge properly placed for correct intonation. There are RR spikes at 6,7,8,9, and 10th frets.
The Superior case with the blue lining is in excellent condition. (see pics) It comes with a tension hoop nut wrench. (Note: the strap in the pictures does not come with the banjo)
Issues:
There is one problem, the neck is cracked between the 1st and 4th string tuners. This has been professionally repaired using an epoxy rated at 3900psi. It is absolutely rock solid. (see picture) There are 3 very fine scratches on the resonator that won’t show up in a picture. There are a few small dings in the neck. There is a small area in the finish of the resonator that has yellowed (see pic) There is some fret wear of the first four frets, but it plays fine.
If the crack was not present, I would be asking $1500.00 for this banjo. Because of this defect I am asking $1000.00. If you want a very playable banjo of this quality, this is the banjo for you with this very reasonable price. (I could probably part this banjo out and get more for it and may do that if there is enough interest.)
