The Ceres model banjo by Jim Britton and Eric Sullivan is exclusively available new at Ceres Banjo Works. This mahogany voiced banjo is in the classic flathead Mastertone style of yesteryear. The basic presentation of this banjo is a mahogany neck with burl redwood veneer on the back of the peghead to match the resonator which has mahogany sides and also a gorgeous burl redwood veneer. I chose the "gold" pearl for the inlay on the brazilian fretboard and of course "Ceres" is inlaid in the Mastertone block. The Ceres has Rickard Cyclone 10:1 tuners and 5th string spikes at frets 7 and 9.
The pot consists of beautiful Prucha hardware with a brushed gold finish. The rim is made of air-dried 3-ply maple and only weighs a little over 14 ounces making for an extremely responsive instrument. With the Ceres banjo is the Ceres 20-hole tone ring. After playing all of the modern tone rings available and many of the prewar Gibson flathead tone rings I've put together the things I liked between a 1929 and 1931 flathead from Gibson to create the Ceres ring. These rings are stamped "CERES" underneath along with a serial number.
