This large gourd banjo was made by Bob Thornburg. Sometime in 2010's is a total guess and I would assume possibly earlier but I'm unsure how to date Bob's work. I've owned it for around 10 years now but I'm not the original owner. It's a great banjo with a big boomy sound just like you'd expect from its massive 13-14" gourd and long 27-28" scale length. It's in pretty much perfect condition other than a little scuff on the top of the peghead on the bass side corner and maybe a little on the opposite. It's a really fun banjo to play and it has a very unique voice even for a gourd banjo.
You'll notice in one photo the gourd looks to have a crack. This is a natural flaw in the gourd that is very common in these larger gourds. It's stable, just slightly more delicate in that area than the rest.
This banjo was refurbished with a new head by Bob Thornburg in 2020. When he shipped it back to me he included a new tailpiece strung with a mix of gut and nylon strings that he said he was using these days. I just recently set the banjo up with this new tailpiece as the original gut strings had begun to break. Original tailpiece included.
