This five string banjeurine, A Gatcomb Monarch, is composed of a 13-inch spun over rim with mahogany neck and ebony fingerboard that brings the scale to about 19 inches.
There is attractive snail shell inlay in the fingerboard and peg head.
The neck joins the body at the 12th fret and the fingerboard has an extension of six frets over the head.
The banjo is equipped with a new geared tuners and the hooks and nuts have been replaced with 30 hex nuts and j-hooks – a matching set.
It is also outfitted with newer neck collar and a no-knot
tailpiece. Repair near the third string tuner done well at John Bernunzio's shop in Rochester. NFI.
This is a good playing 140 old instrument with unusual appointments.
I’ll pack the banjo carefully – the bridge will be removed and placed in an envelop that I will put in the drum which will be wrapped in protective packing material. The nylon strings – relatively new – will be loosened and the entire banjo will be swathed in packing material.
This banjo served me well. The 13-inch pot gives the thing a rich sound. The neck is just right for either up picking or clawhammering.
I’m asking $350 for this banjo – shipping/handling for CONUS included.
Foreign sales will increase the cost – including s/h fees - to $480.
Thanks for your attention.
