I found this in a pawn shop and rescued it from a life as a wall hanger with steel strings.
The neck and pot on this banjo are in fantastic condition, rare for this vintage.

The rim is 3/8" thick, with the cladding. A totally different feel than the 3/4 thick rims that modern builders tend to favor. Total weight of the instrument is only 3 1/2 pounds!
Head is 10 5/8" diameter.
At some point someone upgraded (?) the tuners with similar friction peg replacements, but the original tuners are included, albeit one has an original broken button and a 5th string replacement button that appears to have been carved out of a whittlin' stick with a dull knife. There is also some sort of capo / torture device of which the likes I have yet to see before.
The metal and leather have a nice tarnish that I would hope the next owner would leave it as is :)
The Supertone brand was what the sears roebuck used. From what I understand these were built by Lange, which is a good thing.
I found a similar looking model in the 1918 catalog (see pic).
