I've had several of these type conversions through the shop but this one is by far the most detailed one yet. As you can see in the pictures and video this banjo looks and sounds tremendous. This banjo started as a Gibson Kel Kroydon and has been converted into a Style 3 flathead 5-string using some of the best components available. The original prewar resonator was re-skinned to a Style 3 mahogany with concentric rings by Steve Gill and the prewar rim has been re-stained to Style 3 color and fitted with a 20-hole Blaylock flathead tone ring. The original hardware is in fantastic shape with a modern pot metal tension hoop and the prewar Grover tailpiece was "punched" by Jerry Keys. The mahogany neck on this banjo has a wonderful profile and was made by Frank Neat with a Brazilian rosewood fretboard. Also installed are Hopper cam tuners which work flawlessly.
