This Nechville Phantom is a gorgeous work of art, and has a beautiful mellow tone. I have found that it excels when it comes to melodic playing. The intonation is near perfect with a sweet tone up and down the neck.
When I bought the banjo it came with no inlay at all, and I had a hard time finding my way around the neck, so I sent the neck to a company that specializes in custom inlay. I had a gospel inlay pattern installed in the banjo, which turned out wonderful.
I have two different rims for this banjo. One rim holds the ballbearings for a sharper bite and greater volume. However, I have been playing it with the other rim without the ballbearings because it is much lighter. I don't hear a drop in volume, and it retains the mellow sweetness. The buyer will receive both rims and ballbearings so they can switch them out at will. The Heli-Mount system makes it easy to switch out rims, or heads for that matter.
It comes with 10:1 tuners and a tunneled 5th string. The neck is radiused and wider than a traditional Gibson type banjo, making it easier to fret. It has the longer scale neck with 24 frets.
An added plus is that it is light - only 10.5 pounds! If you are playing onstage for much time, the reduced weight is imortant.
