Sadly, I’ve come to the decision that I need to sell my beloved 2010 Deering Sierra. Arthritis in my hands is making it increasingly difficult to play, so I think it is time to find a new home.
The banjo is in excellent condition. In 2019, it was set up and re-fretted by master banjo luthier Mike Munford in Shrewsberry, PA.
I’ve put together a package including the banjo, case, and a number of accessories that I hope will make it attractive to a player interested in moving up to Deering’s basic line of professional level instruments. Deering actually calls the Sierra their “flagship upper-line banjo”. Banjo has been upgraded with Schatten Pickup/preamp system (current list ~$300), Keith tuners (current list ~$260), and Dr. Arm mahogany armrest (current list ~$90).

Pricing a collection like this is a challenge. New Deering Sierra’s list at almost $3200; used ones seem to be $2000+. Elderly recently listed a 2011 Sierra with original Kavanjo pickup system and some finish delamination at $2150. So, I think a price of $2200 for the banjo and all the accessories seems like a fair price for buyer and seller.
I am located in northeast New Jersey, and given the risks of shipping, would strongly prefer cash payment and local pickup. Shipping and insurance would be the buyer’s responsibility.
Sad to see it go, but realize it must.
