This OME Celtic Star 50th Anniversary presentation banjo (#5499-1) is a spectacular masterpiece in every way. Hand-carved and dye-colored heel, back of the peghead, and 22 images around the pot, with hand-engraved and beautiful gold-plated hardware which has not tarnished in the ten years I’ve owned, played, and admired it. This is a work of art with all the bells and whistles. (The banjo was new and featured at the 2011 N.A.M. show and was the only one made of its kind. I am the second owner.) The banjo has the OME 11” Silverspun tone ring with solid brass double rod construction and fully adjustable tension rod (which I’ve never had to adjust). The tone is clear and bright, and it is smooth and easy to play clawhammer (which I do) or bluegrass. As a player and one who appreciates beautiful banjos, I remember thinking when I first bought it that now I’ll never have to buy another banjo. Of course, that trick never works, and now at 74 I’m divesting, and would like to send this one to someone who will appreciate it as much as I have.
