Selling my wonderful top tension unsigned Henry Dobson fretless which conforms to his 1867 patent ( wooden tension hoop, push pegs, etc. ). The banjo has a rare , beautifully figured rosewood neck, interesting purfling on the sides of the resonator and a fancy marquetry spray on the closed back - showing horns, drum, lyre, bird, musical pages, floral design, etc. The banjo is set up with a skin head, real gut strings and a period style bridge. The rosewood " push " pegs are modern but similar to the originals. The banjo has several repairs on the closed back and some of the purfling has been replaced on the sides of the resonator ( see photos ). There is a small repair to the rosewood top tension ring and several tight cracks on the resonator side. The banjo plays well and sounds great. It has a 10" skin, 18 1/2" from nut to rim, 36" total length. Please contact me for additional details, photos, etc. Pick up in the Boston area can be arranged to save shipping charges.
