This is a very ornate all original top tension walnut tenor banjo that has a nice combination of embellishments typical of that period. Pearloid is used on the fretboard, peghead cover and the pickguard. engravings were used to decorate the fretboard and peghead cover. The neck is carved at the heel and at the back of the peghead. The neck is bound and is in fine condition overall. The geared tuners appear original and are fully functional.
The pot consists of a walnut tone rim (no metal rod) that is capped and is in fine condition as well. The top tension style flange is quite robust with 12 reinforcing gussets to handle the load generated by the 20 recessed tensioning bolts. The tension hoop itself is very solid and pleasantly shaped and has a simple flat bar arm rest attached at 2 of the bolts. The exposed surface of the tone rim has a tasteful ring of wood marquetry centered on it's vertical face.
The resonator is attached by a single central hex head screw of the same size as the tensioning bolt heads. It is double bound and has a ring of marquetry that matches the ring on the tone rim on it's vertical centerline. There is a very elaborate floral wood inlay utilizing a variety of contrasting wood segments on the back of the resonator that is in excellent condition. There is a small repair to the sidewall veneer at the neck heel opening.
I believe this banjo is in very good overall condition and is a nice clean example of this era of upscale banjo construction. If you have questions or comments please message me.
