I bought this banjo from a pawn shop many years ago, I do no have the experience to confirm it but I have always assumed that it is a Kit banjo, most likely from Stew Mac. It had a couple of minor issues, but even having been neglected, in my opinion, it had a pleasant rather mellow sound for an arch top style banjo. It seemed to deserve a rescue. I added a new Remo medium head, a new Neotech quick disconnect strap, a new .656 Grover style bridge, meduim light strings and assigned it a good used hard shell case from my possibles collection.

It has a mahogany neck that has a nice rich Ebony fretboard, peg head cover and heel cap. There is practically zero fret wear, and has branded Gibson planetary tuners and an unbranded geared fifth string tuner (all feel smooth). All of inlays are elaborate and appear to me to be richly varigated abalony and are intact. There is a single acting truss rod, bone nut and the neck is bound. The neck wood has a few small blemishes but is in very good overall cosmetic and structural condition. I had to repair the lower lag screw
by installing a hardwood dowel and re-drilling and re-installing the lag screw. It is a nice clean and durable repair.

The pot assembly is built around a unique (to me) light weight arch top style (fabricated ?) tone ring (see photos). The three ply oak (I think) rim has a 9\16 thick sidewall below the flange. The one piece flange and heavy notched tension hoop are in excellent condition and the plating is bright on all of metal parts with very slight tarnishing, primarily on the arm rest.

The resonator is double bound mahogany veneer with two concentric rings of white-black-white style. It is in very good cosmetic and structural condition. It mounts with three thumb screws.

After a quick survey of the banjo parts here on BHO, I set the price based on the total value of the parts. In my opinion, this banjo has a unique mellow tone, plays easily (action height is approximately .100" at the 12 th fret), looks nice and is quite light for an arch top design (8.5 pounds). Again, in my opinion, this banjo would suit a varietyof players and styles and is priced fairly. Let me know what you think and feel free to message with your questions or comments.
