D Model Baldwin ODE For Sale@ $3,200 just in time to slide under your Christmas tree. I bought this banjo a few years ago from a gentleman in California. He had two D Models for sale at the time, the other was (Baldwin only) pristine with perfect gold which was soon scooped up by the hawks over at the Banjo Warehouse. When I asked why one had gotten worn (this one) and the other hadn’t, he said that the sound comparison wasn’t there and this one was superior. After I got it, I suspect he was being honest. The frets were very worn (now new) and there were little dings here and there, most notably a bump on the lower part of the resonator (pictured) and the binding is missing from the top of the headstock (pictured). You can also see a small hairline in the Baldwin banner(pictured). Outside of those cosmetic imperfections, the banjo is in good shape with normal wear. The action is very low and the tone is very clear all the way up the neck. If you’ve had a Baldwin or Baldwin ODE, you likely know what I am talking about.
This banjo has been played quite a bit over the years and I’ve put t a lot of hours on it myself. I actually really love and appreciate this banjo, it sounds good and has that thin neck which just makes it so fun and easy to play. The frets were replaced by Mark Bramlett last year or the year before. Mark aslo proved to be an expert at Baldwin setup as
I was thoroughly impressed with how much he improved the banjo I already loved. Frets are new. Spikes are set at 7, 8, 9. This banjo is ready to be played.
Why am I selling it? This is one of 3 D Model Baldwins I currently own. Just a few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to acquire an older Baldwin (1966 D-Model Propellor) and they are way too similar to keep them both. Selling this banjo was the only way I could justify buying a new Baldwin to the wife (if you have a wife you also know what I am talking about ??)
I’d like to sell this banjo locally, would also be happy to drive a ways to meet a serious / committed buyer.
Banjo does not come with the capo, strap, or tuner. I posted a picture of the SN, but despite my best efforts I can’t quite make it out.
