Description
In 1927 Gibson made some Banjos with a Raised Head No Hole Tone Ring which are louder then your typical banjo. These Tone rings are serious and attract a lot of attention from collectors. These banjos are also somewhat rare. This is a very clean and all original example of one of these banjos which has been converted to a 5 string. The pot has all original parts and this banjo is powerful and gorgeous.
This has a mahogany resonator with a curly maple neck and rosewood fretboard. The neck is made by an unknown builder but is absolutely a professional quality neck. The fretboard has a Hearts and Flowers inlay pattern. The 1st 4 string tuners are original Pre War Tuners.
The hardware is nickel and all original including a 2 piece flange and the original Tone Ring. This has the original Grover Patent Presto Tailpiece and 2 piece armrest. This banjo is all there and is a very, very nice find.
There is no serial number written inside the resonator but this absolutely is the original resonator. We just bought several banjos from the Dick Smith collection and we received one other Pre War Gibson like this. This banjo has all original Pre War parts although the resonator does not have the numbers inside. That resonator is original.
This is a great sounding and playing Pre War conversion Banjo. This also includes a hardshell case.
Condition
This banjo is in beyond really good shape. This is super clean and is not common to find one of these in this condition.
The finish on the resonator is original and has almost no wear. The neck finish is in great shape. The fretboard and frets are clean all the way down and this has spikes at frets 7 and 9. The hardware is in great shape and almost looks new. We did not clean this hardware, this banjo came in like this. The case is in very good condition as well.
Set Up
This is set up with a new Remo head which is set to 90. This has a Huber Bridge and new Huber strings. The banjo is a great example of a Pre War Gibson at a great price and this is absolutely gorgeous.
