The Summer in review

Posted by Ryan Cavanaugh on Wednesday, August 15, 2007

In June I went into the studio for two weeks in NYC and Nashville. The sessions were for sax legend Bill Evans's Soulgrass II project. I got to track and hang out with such jazz luminaries as Richard Bona, joel Rosenblatt, Victor Wooten, Dennis Chambers, and Christian Howes. The Nashville sessions inclued guitar great Pat Bergeson, Sam bush, and Bela Fleck. A great experience all around. The album will be out in February. From there I went to play the Ottawa jazz Festival with Bill Evans and Soulgrass, garering rave reviews with my electric banjo efforts. Shortly after, I went to teach at the Christian howes Creative Strings Workshop in Colombus Ohio. Full of aspiring young violinists and fiddlers looking to expand their knowledge, I had the pleasure of teaching music theory and bluegrass composition alongside Billy Contreras, Bryce Milano, and Alex Hargraves. Young badasses to say the least. I've spent the rest of the time preparing my cd for the printers. Songs for the New Frontier should be out in 2 weeks! I cant wait.
