This summer has been pretty fun. I unexpectedly got back into playing live Bluegrass some some good friends in my neighborhood here in Nashville, wrote a new albums worth of bluegrass tunes, and another albums worth of No Man's Land stuff. The International Newgrass festival was great to my band as usual, and it was a pleasure to sit in with Sam Bush and his band for some late night musical fun! Earlier this summer, I also got the chance to sit down with banjo buddy Bela Fleck to hear his last revisions of a concerto he has written for the Nashville Symphony Orchestra. A self admittedly serious undertaking for Bela, as for any non-orchestral musician, he was very excited to show it to me, as I was in turn to have a listen. I'm optimistic to start exploring my own orchestral interests and to hear him perform his piece live with the Symphony. As for the rest of September and October, I will be headed to NC to play some classic rock with good friend Darren Shumaker, and will be going on the occasional weekend road trip with Jeff and Vida, and the Danberrys. See the calendar at www.ryancavanaughnomansland.com for more details. I'm also excited to be touring Ireland, Germany, and Italy from Oct 27th-Nov 13th with Bill Evans.
