Songs For the New Frontier

Posted by Ryan Cavanaugh on Wednesday, April 4, 2007

It's been a while since I've written a blog. My free lessons at musicmoose.org seem to be picking up. Being totally improvised, I made one or two, uncorrected statements with terminology, (ie) I mentioned 3rds when I was really playing in 5th intervals. Either way, these are very progressive lessons and I hope banjo player can get something out of it. (p/>) My new bluegrass album, "Songs For the New Frontier," Is all but done. I need to have it masterd and printed. A track, Sauratown Mountain, is already posted in my song section and on myspace.com/banjoryan(p/>) Also, I've recently been hired to play on a few tracks with guitar legend, Buddy cage (Janis Joplin, Dylan, Lenny Breau, Bonnie Rait), on an album with John Bon Jovi. As far as my gigs with Bill Evans and Soulgrass, we are recording the new Soulgrass album in May, with Bela Fleck, Victor Wooten, Bruce Hornsby, Dennis Chambers, and more.

and just for curiosity, do you give private lessons ever?  you know, nothing regular just an occasional thing.

I recorded only one album. A live one called "Live From Nowhere." Some exploratory stuff. I can try to get a copy to you if you like. I think there might also be some on Cd-Baby or @ disklogic.com. Yes, lessons like that are available. Thanks, Ryan

Thanks for the Musicmoose lessons.  Some good stuff there.  Your new album will be the coolest sh** to come down the pike in a while.  I've grown tired of most of the music being put out by the usual suspects.  You definately assembled the A team for your project.  Can't wait to put in an order.  Are you going to be in NC May 17-19?  I'll be at Bill and Mary's.  Peace -J
