I spoke with Doug Dillard today and he was let go from the Dillards...this broke my heart...he's a VERY close friend of mine.

WHAT? He IS the Dillards. Mistake on their part, cutting the legend from their ranks.....

No matter what happens, he will always be a Dillard.

Any clues as to why?

I was at a Dillards concert once in St. Louis, where Doug didn't show for the gig...they had to have a young talent in the audience step up and play Doug's parts...
A friend of mine said he'd read that Doug may have had alcohol issues.

I emailed Rodney and he really couldn't say why Doug was let go...as for the alcohol Doug has drank in over 11 years.

Scott, I think you ment that Doug has not drank in over 11 years and good for him.

I haven't had the pleasure of seeing the Dillards live, but have watched a lot of recorded performances. They don't have the same stage presence or energy without Douglas.

You got that right, Greenhorn!

Since Doug is on-half of the Dillards, I would have to agree with Dillardfan. Due to age or illness Doug may retire from performing but I also think this to NOT be the case. I saw the Dillards in Pensacola, FL not too long ago and they were awsome. Doug is an icon and will go down in history as one of the greatest!

If Doug is not with the Dillards, will he be performing on his own?
