Well, my wife and I took a cruise for 2 weeks after the first of the year.
On the trip, the wife fell in Mexico. Just went down on both knees, three days into the trip. Then while we went through the Panama Canal, while getting out of a fresh water shower at the pool area, I fell. I bet I looked like a beached whale slip-sliding around on the deck. Well we got back and went to the Dr's, took X-Rays and found nothing broken or cracked. Just sprains and strains.
I play in a volunteer band consisting of 15 to 20 musicians, all but one retired. I am not going to load anyone down with the ailments of our band except to say that a lot has happened since we got back and it has affected several of our band members, including our band leader (Parkinson"s) and his wife who had a stroke a couple of weeks ago. She is in therapy now for 3 weeks.
We play around 16 times per month at nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and senior centers. We feel that we are so blessed to have one another to play with, and to have the different audiences to listen to us.
I hope that if I have the occasion to be a client of a nursing home that someone will come in and play for me the songs that I am playing now to them. I know they enjoy it because they come up to me after each gig and tell me so. When someone enjoys your music and looks forward to seeing you each month, you get the biggest lump in your throat. It really is hard to describe. I can only hope that the time for me to quit playing for them is not going to stop for a long while. So if you have any opportunity to play at one of these facilities, do it and you will never look back.
We all realize that we need replacements for the band members as we are no longer able to play, but it seems like there are very few young people out there to take our places.
Well I had better quit for now. I will write more later.
