My new years resolution for 2009 is a music resolution. I hope to discipline my self to study more on music theory that I started a few weeks ago. Study YUCK sounds a lot like going back to school, that's what I told myself when I realized the only way I'm going to accomplish my desire with banjo is to learn the theory of what and how of chord composition. The music I desire to play TAB doesn't exist for and most probably never played on a banjo. For instance CASTING CROWNS,RANDY PHELPS,MERCY ME ETC.,all of which are contemporary christian bands and of course the worship music our church song leaders play in our church. So the only way I'm going to get where I want to be with my banjo is to learn how to pick it out by ear from my soul NOT BY TAB like I have been doing. Hopefully with a little hard work and luck and A WHOLE LOT OF PRAYER in this next year I will be able to accomplish just that. HAPPY NEW YEARS EVERYONE & GOD BLESS !

Best wishis , and you have your work cut out.
You can do it, if you work toward that goal.
As to what the music ministry is playing these days,
it seems that many churches are headed toward
"contemporary' , meaning christian rock.
it happened to me, after 20 years of blending in,
it beacme clear it was time to step down.
The biggest challenge was the basic timing,
rhythm, or beat.
What is used now fits a loud, amplified guitar,
with a flat pick.
I miss those old hymns, choruses, and simple
4/4 time.
But, it's not about me, it's about praising God,
and reaching out to the "youth" who want to hear
it that way.
Thank you Lord, for the banjo hangout, and for
those who still love to hear, and play, bluegrass gospel.
