We should sponsor a pick-off to settle this question for once and for all (although it's already settled in my mind). Let's get two guys who want to represent the picks / no picks factions and have them play a couple of previously chosen tunes; record and post the results and have members decide which version is cleanest and most attractive to listen to. Any takers?

They play old time. Or clawhammer or frailing or drop thumb. But if you want to get technical the three-finger bluegrass style is done with picks.
