i have really enjoyed reading posts on practice technique/methods. i know many of you play the banjo to "unwind" or relax, and i do too. but i think it may be too relaxing for me. i find myself drifting off to sleep while i'm playing, especially during repetitions. not so much when i'm trying to practice a song. this happens at all times of the day, when i'm tired and when i'm wired. the metronome is like a heartbeat or something to me. anyone else?

Using a metronome can be a lot like watching tennis on television or being lulled into drowsiness by the repetetive slapping of windshield wipers.

I think doing repetitions of anything can get boring. Try doing those repetitions with software that has background music to it -- like Band in a Box -- then it'll seem more like you're picking with a band and maybe that'll keep it from being so boring.

I always fall asleep driving in the rain,...guess I better not play banjo in the car when it is raining!

Using a metronome has all the excitement of watching paint dry.
