I changed the head on the 26 tb 2 and thought I'd take a photo of the ring set up for those of you that might be interested if you haven't come across this particular model

As I understood it this could be one of a couple of other set ups for this yr and model.

One thing for sure, the tailpiece is a P.I.T.A.

I've had a TB-2 with that same hollow oval tone ring ..... sounded really good.  However, that flange would appear to make it a 1925 rather than a 26, but of course you know Gibson.

I can't say why they disappeared but that style of flange is known as the ribbon flange. Some of the lower end Gibsons with the shoe and plate design used them. Others used the hex hole flange. They were used on banjos with 22 brackets. I have never seen either design on a 24 bracket banjo.

Don't know why my reply to you John showed up before your post.

I'll have to look at my "25 and see what the fon is .... also what kind of tone ring it has.  My banjo that had that particular tone ring had a 10 1/2" head.

Are all ribbon flange 10.5” pots? Did they do an 11” Assy with ribbon flange?

I haven't come across an 11" Ribbon flange
Gibson switched to an 11" diamond flange shortly after the Ribbon flange on the style 2 .Some of those may have been 10.5".
Maybe someone else here will know better than me.

My other TB-2 with a diamond flange and tubular ring was also 10.5 inches.

Some of the other plate flanges had hexagon shaped holes. I have one that is for an 11" pot, but it still has holes for 22 brackets.
