... he appears to be playing a Gibson Mastertone with a cut down peghead.
Can anyone confirm?

Here’s a picture of him with the banjo, its got a weirdly placed block inlay and the text on the peg head isn’t Gibson, it could be a Gibson pot with a replaced neck or could be a completely no Gibson banjo.

I remember Leroy telling me about his banjo. I just called him to ask about it again so I have it correct. He got that banjo from Raymond Fairchild many years ago. It's a TB Gibson diamond hole flange. It has a 5 string conversion neck by unknown maker. The inlayed block on fretboard isn't what you think. It's a address label he put on it. It has the rolled brass hoop of course. No tone ring. He said it's a great sounding banjo.
