Hi I’m new here. This was my dad’s banjo and he passed away recently. His widow said that I could have the banjo and I’m just curious to find out what it might be worth. If anyone can give me an idea I would appreciate it.

Here's someone at BHO collecting serial numbers:

Take the banjo to Gryphon Stringed Instruments in Palo Alto. They are one of the best stringed instrument shops in the country, and will give you an idea of condition, value and potential. Saleability of your banjo. I have done business with them for 50 years. You will get honest and accurate answers to your questions.

Headstock says "Super Orpheum". Someone will likely know more and chime in.

Just Google Super Orpheum Banjo and quite a few sites have info. Looks to be their premier model from the 1920's or thereabouts. I don't think the value will be high but? All the best with your search.

Thank you. Actually I’ve been a customer there for probably 50 years too! I’m planning on taking it in. I have bought some of my very favorite ukulele’s there. I was just looking for an idea. I don’t really want to sell it, I’m just curious because it’s pretty old.

It's definitely worth much more to keep - it's your dad's banjo!

It is a beautiful Tenor banjo, you can tune it as you are more confortable and play it as an alternative to your uke…

A Super Orpheum would be from the late 1920's or early 1930's and made by William Lange in NYC. The resonator does not look like what it typically on Super Orpheum banjos and it's missing the flange. More pictures would help determine what you have.

The Style 1 was the cheapest of the Super Orpheum line, though still a nice instrument. This is the correct resonator, and there should not be a flange.
