I am looking for information on Eric Muller who in the early 70's coauthored a manual with a lady by the name of Barbara Koehler titled Frailing Banjo an Instruction Manual in the Mel Bay series. Mister Muller would on occasion play at a local facility in Belleville Wisconsin and this served as my introduction to Clawhammer style banjo. I owe him a major thank you for the many hours of joy that I have gotten from hearing him play and reading his book. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Fred Panke

The Koehler/Muller, Tim Jumper and Ken Perlman books are, hands down, the best claw-hammer books out there. These authors have consistently solid musical arrangements for the common tunes.
I believe that Eric is with us in spirit, per the YouTube comments.

I had this book for years back in the 1970’s,, but I went to the dark side and started learning Scruggs-style. I do remember using “Temperance Reel” from that book to get a 3 finger version.

At the recent Banjo Gathering, in Carrboro, NC, Chuck Levy presented his research on Eric Muller and Barbara Koehler and the creation of their Frailing the 5-String Banjo book. He would be the one to ask for more information.
Though the shop I was associated with in the first 15 years of my career, Goose Acres Folk Music Center, sold dozens of copies of that book, I had never listened to the accompanying LP record-cassette tape-CD-Download to hear Eric's playing. Chuck did play a little of that recording and I was very impressed with Eric's music.
