Check out this amazing Ebay listing for a"Vtg. Deering Goodtime 5-String Resonator Banjo". I've never seen one quite like it...

$500? I'll take three of them.
You have to admire someone's gall that they think no one will ever figure it out.

The vendor has the banjo described as:
"The vintage Deering Goodtime 5-string resonator banjo is a vintage instrument with a 1979 manufacturing year, making it a classic choice for folk and world music enthusiasts. ".
I bit the hook and messaged the vendor:
"Not a Deering Goodtime Banjo. Not a Deering banjo either. Goodtime banjos started production in the 1990's. This is a very interesting homemade banjo with no pedigree."
Response:
"I read deering started in 1975 with the goodtime line with no serial numbers and the goodtime line started in 1990's. I put in 20 hours of research about this. The serial numbers began in 1990 in the inside. Thanks for your information but I did my research"

I guess the best thing to do is contact Janet Deering and ask her if it's real or not. She's a member here.

The seller's response makes me think of the old Mark Twain quote, "There's no shame in being ignorant. Wanting to remain that way is a shame." Or something like that.

Couldn’t he just be honestly mistaken? I mean, if you were going to lie about a banjo’s pedigree, why call it a Goodtime? By the way, I've had a couple of Goodtimes over the years and I like them for what they are, so I'm not making fun of them.

"No low-ballers, I know what I got."
The only good thing that banjo has got going for itself is... um... bear with me, I can't quite think of anything right now.
I think I use similar hooks when hanging ornaments on my Christmas tree.

Wonder what the radius is on the top of the head stock. It has got a good look to it.

The placement of the bridge just screams "Pre-war Gibson Mastertone."
I'd buy it, but I sold my canoe.

I know what I have " No Low Ballers" this may be a prototype GDL or John Hartford. Extremely rare, May be the rarest banjo ever.
