Dan X Padgett in Boiling Springs, NC would be a great resource to ask.

I plan on being there this weekend and bringing two Proffitt (non-Glenn) banjos.
Other significant makers from Watauga Co. area:
Tedra Harmon
Frank Proffitt Jr. (not likely actually a makers, but worked “with” the Glenns and other(s))
Roby Hicks
Nathan Hicks
Edd Presnell

I doubt Mike Ramsey made “thousands of open-backs”. Fewer than Bart Reiter I believe.

Mike was in the 4000s when I last met him shortly before his death. I think Bart was very close to 5000 however you'll have to ask him. -Patrick

I have no details, but C.E. Ward from the Concord area was well known 30-40+ years ago.

Did Bill Porter from Wadesboro make banjos? I know he supplied other makers with a lot of parts.

I think it interesting that in my files I have virtually no 19th century makers south of Baltimore ( not counting some early mountain style banjos that may have been made before 1900 ). This probably warrants further investigation.
