Has anyone ever seen a solid copper resonator like this? Thank you for sharing any knowledge you may have. It came off of a salvaged Bacon & Day (Peerless?) banjo. That is all I know.

If you mean post-1982 pennies, it wold be many—since that year, pennies have been 97.5% zinc with copper plating.

Even "old" pennies weren't PURE copper. They'd be too soft.

I'm not too sure this resonator is pure copper either. Not a ding in it that I can see.

Have you ever seen a resonator like this?

I doubt this is pure copper, it would be very heavy. (In the drum world there have been copper shells & cymbals, & they were very heavy). Your resonator is possibly a copper finish.

Nosir Spudwheat, I've never seen this type of metal resonator. It looks more like an old lamp baseplate to me.

Good thought. Maybe it is!

My first banjo, a Pollman, had a similar type of "resonator" (it acted more like a mute), but it was nickle plated. A lamp base would be very heavy cast brass, this looks to me more like a sheet metal pie-tin weight.
Maybe sheet copper or brass alloy?

this is certainly an old lamp base as Dick mentioned, you can even see four spots where the pads went to protect the furniture, theres still one left it looks like.
