For sale is my Deering Vega Old Tyme Wonder. Great clawhammer/open back banjo.
I am the only owner, and purchased it new in 2006 from McCabes Music in Santa Monica, CA.
I am selling because I exclusively play bluegrass Scruggs style banjo, and do not play clawhammer.
It comes with the original hard shell Deering case.
$1,175 OBO (about 1/2 the new price)
I am also selling my: 1) 1927 Gibson TB-4 no hole conversion (with Frank Neat neck), 2) 1998 Gibson Earl Scruggs 49 Classic, 3) 1927 Gibson TB-3 no hole conversion (with an Arthur Hatfield 5 string neck; 4) 1954 Gibson RB-250 (1st year Gibson manufactured a Mastertone after WW2) and (possibly) 5) a Sullivan chrome-plated walnut Mastertone style banjo with a neck from a 1940s walnut neck blank from Frank Neat; 6) Hatfield Feud (gold-plated banjo)

Note that despite its name, Deering’s Old Tyme Wonder is nothing like the Vega Little Wonder banjos made before Deering bought the Vega name. It has no tone ring and a 12-inch shell.

Thanks for the background, Bill.
It just was playing it a little yesterday and it does have a very nice full clawhammer tone.

Hey Everyone,
Since I do not play clawhammer banjo at the moment, I want to find a good home for this banjo where someone will genuinely play and appreciate it.
So, I lowered the price to $1,175, which is about 1/2 the price of this banjo new.
