About 15 years ago someone somewhere recommended me an album to get into old time music. I remember one of the tunes was Cumberland Gap and this was the album that got me interested in learning old time banjo.
I am sorry I don't have more to go on, I seen to recall the recordings were old and of low quality. Can anyone help me?

Could it be High Atmosphere (Ballads and banjo tunes from Virginia and North Carolina collected by John Cohen in November of 1965) - Rounder CD 0028?

This might put you down a huge deep rabbit hole, but you could try searching for the tune Cumberland Gap on YouTube and and some of the other websites that host Traditional Fiddle tunes, Smithsonian, Folkways etc. If you happen to find the version you remember, then you can search the player and hopefully from there, find the album.
The worst that could happen is that you hear 20-30 or if it gets out of hand, a few hundred different versions of Cumberland Gap and you pick up a few variations to make your own.
