On this version of Golden Slippers, what is the difference between the slide at the beginning of measure 1 and the slide at the beginning of measure 3?
It uses different symbols, but I do not know what they mean.
Thank you.

Listening to the song, all three slides sound the same, so maybe an error in the tab. Josh provided a link to read tab and it shows the first measure slide, but not the 3rd.

They are identical. They both have "SL" above them for "slide." I prefer the simpler arrangement in Banjo Player's Songbook" by Tim Jumper. banjered

There are different ways of playing a slide depending on whether you slide smoothly over the time given for the 2 notes, slide immediately after the 1st note, or defer the slide until just before the 2nd note. Maybe that's why they are different ? There's no standard for tabbing this so I don't know. But all three sound the same here.

He plays them exactly the same. Software often substitutes abbreviated symbols in the oddest places when measure sizing is implemented. You can indicate slise up, slide down or bend and slide.

banjered -- I do not have access to the "Banjo Player's Songbook". Do you know of anywhere I can find tabs for a similar version of this song?

There are 3 clawhammer versions in the tab library. One is in G tuning and two are in double-C tuning. You don't indicate your playing level. If you need a very basic version in G, let us know. Here are links to the tabs in the Tab Library:
G tuning - Golden Slippers Tab - Details and Ratings - Banjo Hangout
Double-C Beginner - Golden Slippers Tab - Details and Ratings - Banjo Hangout
Double-C Intermediate - Golden Slippers Tab - Details and Ratings - Banjo Hangout
The double-C versions link to anopther site with many tabs.

When I ask for slides on tabs, sometimes I get the diagonal-looking one, which I don't prefer, and sometimes the one with the arrow, which makes more sense. I haven't figured out the irregularity of the tab program in this case. Good question, though.

Janet,
Are you talking about a quick grace note slide or mordent possibly?....Jack

Here I have tried to demonstrate different slides and hammer ons in TablEdit.
The slow slide. the ordinary slide and the fast slide uses the slide command. The grace note slide uses the grace note command and choosing slide from 2 fret in the Grace note box.

Thank you Jan,
This should help Janet understand about how grace note slides look as well as other different looking slides....Jack
