I kept looking for good Banjitar strings and tried electric guitar strings, bronze, etc.—the usual suspects, even sets that were supposedly expressly for a 6-string banjo. Nothing ever sound right until I tried Argentine brand gypsy-jazz strings designed for Selmer-style guitars. For me, these are great. You can get them loop or ball end and the standard gauges they offer work well on a banjo guitar.

Thanks for the tip on those strings! Another suggestion that I found is a heavy bridge, 4 1/2 to 5 grams.

I'm going to try your suggestion, I've never really been satisfied with regular acoustic guitar strings on my Framus banjo-guitar.

I only fingerpick my git-jo, and light electric strings (unwound third) work for me.

I don't like the sound of the standard E and A strings. I have tried the Fender Voodoo Chile electric guitar strings which are better 10-38 so much lighter bass strings. But generally I still prefer to use unwound E and A strings tuned an octave higher.
