Hi all— just got a 1923 Vega tenor banjo (I play Irish trad) and it’s minus bridge. Has anybody got advice on how to figure out what kind of bridge it needs and where to get one?

I assume the banjo’s set for a half-inch bridge. I’d try different ones to see what sound you like. Should be available from any place that sells banjo bridges. If there are Irish musicians near you, ask them about local suppliers. If you're in a larger city, there should be both musicians and stores who can help.

I specialize in the repair, restoration, and setup of tenor banjos for Irish trad. I can supply you with a bridge, slotted correctly for your strings. You should know that the bridge directly affects the action height so having the correct height is crucial to the playability of the banjo.

I have a 1923 Vega tenor, 17 frets, Style M tu-ba-phone. I use a 1/2" bridge available on-line. I would prefer a slightly higher bridge. Tried a higher one and the action was bad. The neck would need to be adjusted, but I didn't want to mess with it.
